Great Hall

At the centre of the house, a galleried Great Hall sets the tone for the ambience downstairs: flagstones and timbers, a hint of grandeur but with a distinctly rustic Somerset quality. This huge space is double aspect, with glazed double doors opening to the property’s twin lawns and distant views. Summer or winter, it is a wonderful area for drinks receptions and can also be used as an alternative dining room, with hired furniture. It leads directly to the kitchen, the main drawing room, a boot/laundry room, downstairs loo, and it links to the smaller entrance hall by which the house is entered by the main front door. It is also home to an antique, well-cushioned mahogany children’s sleigh bed, specially placed in front of the radiator for very pampered pets.

“The house had a sense of history and character, though the amenities were all up to date.”
